Member of the Iranian-Russian Chamber of Commerce: We are looking to use national digital currencies in trade with Russia

Jalil Jalalifar, a member of the Iran-Russia Joint Chamber of Commerce, said Iran had suggested that Russian officials use the two countries’ national digital currencies instead of the dollar in future exchanges. He says Russians are more inclined to use the dollar because of sanctions.

According to Arzdigital and quoted by Mehr news agency, Jalil Jalalifar said about the removal of the dollar from Iranian-Russian stock exchanges:

This is a good thing, but it has its drawbacks; Moreover, Russia’s financial system imposes some restrictions on other countries.

A member of the Iran-Russia Joint Chamber of Commerce added:

It was even suggested that the exchange take place using national codes between the two countries due to sanctions; However, the use of digital currency in the Russian financial system is currently banned and we will not be able to use this resource until Russian regulations allow the use of cryptocurrencies.

He continued:

It is recommended to have a digital exchange with rial and ruble ciphers.

Jalalifar said:

At the moment we have no problem with the use of rials and rubles in trade with Russia, the result of the sanctions is that the Russians are more inclined to use the dollar, so it is currently not possible to exchange rubles.

A member of the Iran-Russia Joint Chamber of Commerce said:

Negotiations were under way on the use of the two countries’ national currencies, details of which the private sector does not know.
